FAQ
Good to know.
Do I need any experience to start?+
Not at all. Every program is designed to meet you at your level, and most of our members started as complete beginners. Come and watch a class first, no booking needed. Your first session as a member is welcoming and fully guided.
What should I bring to my first session?+
Once you've joined, your kit depends on the class. Gi classes: a white gi, or you can't train. No-gi classes: a rash guard and shorts or tracksuit bottoms with no zips. Kickboxing: gloves and focus pads, plus the KIA t-shirt from the club. Kids classes need the same kit. We don't rent or lend kit. Not sure where to buy? Message us and we'll point you to the right place. Just watching? You don't need anything.
What ages do the kids classes cover?+
Our kids programs are built for ages 7–16, split by age and ability where needed, and always carefully supervised with safety as the top priority. Adult classes are for ages 16 and over.
Is there a contract?+
No long contracts. Choose an unlimited membership or an 8-class pack — both renew monthly, and unused classes don't roll over, so it's use it or lose it.
Where is the academy?+
Frenford Youth Club, The Jack Carter Centre, The Drive, Ilford IG1 3PS — a short walk from Ilford town centre. See the contact page for hours and directions.
